There are no known portraits of Lignery and Aubry, so this rendering of a senior officer of the Compagnies Franches de la Marine in his dress uniform, reaching for a pinch of snuff, illustrates these officers. He wears the medal of a knight of the Order of Saint Louis hanging on a scarlet silk ribbon awarded to Lignery in 1755 and to Aubry in 1760. (Watercolor by Eugène Lelièpvre.
