IN OUR PARENT TIME SURVEY

TEACHING HAS ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT

Parents ranked teaching values to their kids a top priority, second only to spending quality time with their kids. Yet, half of our parent respondents (50.70%) felt they spent too little time teaching kids values, life skills, and discipline.

YOU ARE YOUR CHILD’S FIRST AND LIFELONG TEACHER

You are your child’s first and lifelong teacher, whether you feel prepared for it or not. It’s at once a privilege, an honor, a thrill, and a burden. Some parents love this role, some dread it, and most parents find some parts of teaching easier than others.

Teaching is about preparing your children to navigate school and life, as an adult, with agility, competence, and self-confidence. All parents want their kids to be successful, and the time you invest teaching your children values, knowledge, and skills prepares them to become happy, well-adjusted adults and productive, contributing members of society.

Teach is one of the visible forms of connecting with your children—and, as with Relate, the time you invest in teaching can go a long way in making your kids feel loved and important. While they often seem to overlap (since kids are learning all the time), there is a clear distinction between teaching and relating from your child’s point of view.

Let’s break it down.

Simply stated, when “relating,” you enter your Child’s World. When “teaching,” you invite your child into the Adult World.
