WILLIAM MOODY

Very little is know about William Moody who was a preacher in the Ripley, Mississippi area and submits this report to John R. Howard’s paper in 1842.

Ripley, Miss. Dec. 21st 1842. Dear brethren, J. R. Howard, Editor, and Dunn, Gist and Aden, committee of publication, a few days ago came to hand the 4 last of the Bible Advocate; and I have looked into them, and am well pleased. I joined the brethren in Liberty, on Saturday before the 4th Lord’s day in August last, 7 miles, Southeast of this place; and the next day delivered a discourse—having been proclaiming every chance since. Brother Northcross has been with me part of the time, and 40 have united since, as follows: About half that number confessed Christ, and were buried with their Lord in baptism. we have congregated a church about 16 miles West of this, and I constituted another about 14 miles Northwest of this—There is a church near bro. Northcross numbering about 16—at Liberty about 40—Salem, 10—Tippah, 11; —if I am informed right, making in all in this county, 77 good, loving disciples.—I hope some of the preaching brethren, will come over in Mississippi, and help us as soon as they can. Yours in the hope of immorality, William Moody.3
