Physical Energy
Underlying everything you doâincluding writingâis the need for physical energy. If you arenât rested, hydrated, and healthy, itâs difficult to do anything, including write. Thatâs why you must take care of yourselfâeven when a deadline makes it tough to take time away from your writing work.
What follows are necessities for optimal physical energy. Each one impacts your emotional and mental energy as well.
ï Sleep enoughâseven to eight hours per day.
ï Eat three healthy meals per day.
ï Eat healthy snacks.
ï Drink a lot of water.
ï Take 10 to 20 deep breaths every hour.
ï Take frequent breaksâevery 60 to 90 minutes.
ï Rest your eyes and mind with meditation.
ï Exerciseâeven if itâs just a 30-minute walk each day.
Give your body what it needs to function at an optimal level. If you provide your brain with the oxygen and water it needs, youâll be more focused, clear, productive, and creative. If you care for your body by consistently sleeping enough and eating well, youâll be able to work for extended periods without feeling tired or having difficulty thinking. And if you move your body often and regularly, youâll be happier as well as healthier. In fact, exercise has been proven to change your mood.
Movement can work as a meditation as wellâthink âwalking meditation.â As you move, you lose the negative thoughts and generate more positive ones, which improves your mental and emotional energy. That means youâll come to your desk feeling strong and able to tackle your writing project.
