Harrison had spent the past forty-eight hours looking for Sapphire and here she was, in his office as if fate had delivered her to him. He thought he’d never see her again. The woman was a ghost! With a name like Sapphire, he thought she would be easier to find. He’d forgotten that he’d told her where he worked, and that she could just as easily, find him. Although, he wasn’t exactly sure she’d want to.

He waited until she got her bearings, blinking until her pupils were no longer dilated.

“Are you okay?” he asked.

“I’m fine, just a little dizzy.”

He released her and she drifted away, her posture upright again, as she regained her strength.

“I missed you,” he said.

She turned and looked at him, lips parting slowly, everything thing about her, irresistible. Two quick strides across the room brought Harrison to her again. He swept Sapphire into his arms and lifted her up, his hands sliding wolfishly over her backside as he pushed her against the edge of his desk.

“Harrison, wait—” she started.

Sapphire pushed at his immovable frame…

“What are you doing here? I thought I would never see you again.”

And he wouldn’t, if not for the circumstances, she thought. Oddly though, she was just as happy to see him.

“I didn’t come here to talk about us.”

Harrison gave her a quizzical look as he let her go.

“What else is there to talk about?”

“Your wife, she…”

“My wife and I are getting a divorce. I wanted to tell you that, but you left so quickly. You didn’t give me a chance to explain.”

“Harrison, I know, and that’s what I want to discuss. I have something to tell you.”

“I’m afraid you’ll run out on me again, so please just let me say what I have to say and I promise to let you speak.”

Harrison gripped her upper arms as if to keep her from leaving him again.

“When I was with you I felt more alive than I’ve felt in years. I know you think I’m a cheating scumbag, but I never cheated on my wife. I need you to know that.”

Sapphire shook her head. “What I think about your marriage doesn’t matter.”

“Of course it matters, you just won’t admit it. I love that you play hard to get.”

He cupped her chin and stroked her cheeks with the pads of his fingers.

“That’s not what I mean,” Sapphire started, slapping his hand away.

“I’m serious. I apologize if I did anything to hurt you or if you feel I took advantage of you in any way.”

Harrison just didn’t get it. He was trying to have a moment and she was trying to save his life! He was so hung up on connecting with her—or rather, sleeping with her again, that he was blind to the mounting danger surrounding them.

“I’m not hurt, Harrison. What I need is for you to leave the building with me, now.”

She wanted to tell him about the hit but feared his reaction. Would he trust her, knowing Jane hired her to spy on him?

“As much as I want to I can’t.
