Chapter 5 – The Raid and The Fugitive

The candles toppled over to the floor and the room filled with smoke. Shadows moved; it was impossible to see faces. The air smelled of burning wicks, extinguished fire, and sweat. Petra’s arms were pulled roughly behind her back and tied together with cords around her chair, and a dirty cloth was stuffed in her mouth.

“What’s happening?” Caleb cried out, as his body was slammed to the floor, a knife pressing into his neck.

Morris, now in a chokehold, wheezed for air. “Shut your mouth!” a tall male with a British accent bellowed.

Franklin, wrestled to the ground, struggled to get up, but his captor was much bigger and stronger than him. Jacob’s cards were ripped out of his hands as he was pitched against the wall.

Joshua, bound like Petra, was the only one able to make out the abductors amidst the cloudy haze and the nearly pitch-black room. He counted seven intruders, including two on him, dressed in dark military clothing. They wore full-face tactical masks. We’ve been discovered!

After much scuffling, grunting, as the hazy air settled, a sinister silence commenced. A muscular man, dressed in a suit, wearing a black cap with the UNO embroidered patch, strutted in through the backdoor holding a fancy wooden cane. He sneered at the restrained company, twisting his curled-up mustache.

Benjamin groaned. Oh, My Lord, Jesus! It cannot be. It’s Abdul Mohammad, the current Prime Minister of UNO, and my former Lieutenant Colonel.

Abdul poked Morris with his cane. “It is with great pleasure that I get to see you again, my friend. How long has it been, two decades, eh? How’s the leg?”

“Get over yourself.” Benjamin sucked in his breath, and shot off a thick wad of saliva.

Mohammad wiped the spit from his suit jacket. “I vowed to never stop searching for you after you got away. And here we are. What a beautiful feeling.”

Benjamin shuddered at the grim reality. He had successfully eluded Abdul Mohammad for almost twenty years. Abdul was Howard Rohls’ replacement. How could we have been discovered? God, I’ve been your faithful servant all this time, doing Your will. Please, don’t take this away. We’re so close. What is going to happen to us? These beautiful Jesus disciples.

Morris straightened up, “Leave us alone, what crime have we committed?”

“What crime? Let’s see what we have here?” Abdul fumbled through Benjamin’s briefcase and grabbed a clipboard containing pages of tasks for each of the members, biblical scriptures, and notes on anti-government warfare. The captor tossed the clipboard to the floor, dug further into the bag and yanked out another letter, belting out a menacing laugh.

Glancing over at Benjamin, he said, “This is interesting. Looks like Bible study and a little sharing of your sibling’s sob story right before you killed him, Sammy?”

Petra was confused. Sammy? Who’s Sammy?

“Ahh ...,” Jacob growled while pinned against the wall. I knew something was off.

Mohammad squawked. “Oh, they don’t know. What have you not shared with these youngsters Sammy Quinn, or should I call you SQ? That’s your name after all.
