START YOUR OWN SEEDS

The first thing to do is find out your area’s growing season. Prepare two months in advance. You can start sprouting seeds indoors in a well-lit spot. Take your dried eggshells and fill them with garden soil. Moisten the soil with water. Plant two or three seeds in each shell half. Place the filled eggshells in the egg carton and leave it in a well-lit, warm area. Keep the soil moist but not soggy; only water every two or three days. Once the seeds have sprouted about an inch high, they are ready to transplant into pots.

Fill the pot with garden soil to about two inches from the top. Dig a small hole and plant the sprouted seed, still in its eggshell, in the hole. Cover the roots with dirt, then water the soil under the new plant. Do not pour water directly on the seedling, as it can cause damage.

Water every other day or so, depending on your climate’s humidity, so the soil is kept moist.
