Just as the suffering past is connected to the fantasy future, the pleasurable past is connected to the anxious future. When we are in this time line, we are concerned that the future may not replicate the happy memories from the past.

• Mark was such a precocious child that grown-ups sought out his advice. As an adult he worries about maintaining his importance.
• Laura grew up being told she was beautiful and talented enough to be a movie star. As an adult, she feels anxious when she is not the center of attention.
