QUICK & EASY

Dehydration can be a contributing factor in migraines, and watermelon has a very high water content. Try to leave some of the pale green flesh found between the rind and red parts of the melon, because this area contains most of the antioxidants. Don’t worry; this green area will not detract from the sweetness of the smoothie. Do not substitute red cabbage for the green variety because the red vegetable contains tannins, which can be a migraine trigger.

3 cups cubed watermelon

½ cup green cabbage

¼ English cucumber, cut into chunks

2 tablespoons chopped fresh basil

4 or 5 ice cubes

1. In a blender, blend the watermelon, cabbage, cucumber, and basil until the mixture is smooth.

2. Add the ice cubes, and blend until thick and smooth.

3. Pour the mixture into 2 glasses, and serve.
