In any event, Einstein never took the fork in the road of science that would have led back to the kabbalistic roots of Spinoza’s philosophy or to the kabbalistic secrets of the prisca sapientia that underlie Newton’s quest for the secrets of the “Old One.” His “grudge against the traditional ‘opium of the people’” made him deaf to lost secrets. He feared the “clergy” like the flaming swords guarding the eastern gate of Eden.

About a year before his death, Einstein wrote to Eric B. Gutkind, author of Choose Life: The Biblical Call To Revolt, disputing his belief that we can and should assert our free will to align our thoughts and behaviors with God’s will as revealed in the Bible.

The word God for me is nothing more than the product and expression of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection full of honorable but still primitive legends. No interpretation, no matter how subtle, can change it (for me). These subtilised interpretations are naturally highly diverse and have almost nothing to do with the original text. For me, the unadulterated Jewish religion, like every other religion, is an incarnation of primitive superstitions.

However, as Spinoza pointed out, the oldest complete written texts of the Bible are “fragmented” and “mutilated” versions of the original. In A Theologico-Political Treatise, he proclaims that he has no wish to deny that the Hebrews who had witnessed the revelations to Moses at Mt. Sinai “witnessed marvels beyond those which happened to any other nation.”

Not only is the German translation of the Bible that Einstein refers to as the “original text” a “fragmented” and “mutilated” version of the Bible that was revealed to Moses, or, according to Jaynes, an embellished forgery based on earlier products of the bicameral mind, but the “subtilised interpretations” that Einstein claims have “almost nothing to do with the original text” are, according to Jewish tradition, based on an oral tradition that predates the written Bible. The secrets of this oral tradition were revealed to Moses as the Oral Torah along with the Written Torah. They are the source of the “subtilised interpretations” to which Einstein refers. The “highly diverse” nature of the “subtilised interpretations” with which Einstein was familiar derives from the fact that the oral tradition is even more fragmented and mutilated than the written Bible. It was passed in secret along a chain of elite sages for thirty-four generations. Like the message in a game of Chinese whispers, the first germinal forms of the Oral Torah that were committed to writing by Rabbi Yehuda NaNasi in 189 were distorted, disguised, and embellished.

Not only is the “original text” to which Einstein referred fragmented and mutilated, and the basis of its interpretation distorted, disguised, and embellished, but if Reissner’s fiber was the neural basis of the original revelation then we stand before the Bible like aphasics with damaged Wernicke’s areas reading Shakespeare. Just as no “art of interpretation” could turn the ψ-function into an adequate description of reality in
