For the drum decorations

Unroll the fruit leather and cut strips that are 4–4.5cm (1¾–2in) long. Lightly moisten one side of each strip with water and apply in a zig-zag fashion around the sides of the drums.

Insert each pretzel stick into the (flat) bottom of a gum drop to form drumsticks. To serve, lay two drumsticks on top of each sandwich, crossing them over.

And if you have children, they’ll be more than happy to pitch in with the decoration of the cookies, especially if they’re allowed to sample …! As the icing needs time to dry, you are best off making and decorating the cookies a day ahead. You can follow instructions as below or use a Christmas tree cookie cutter if available.
