Suddenly Lieutenant Tyro approached and said that ‘the dead man’ was [still] alive. That had a terrible effect on us. The idiot doctor had not checked properly and had issued his confirmation of death too soon. Then one of the soldiers was summoned from the ranks and the captain ordered him to fire a shot into the head again, from right up close. When that had happened, the corpse was put into a coffin and taken away to the cemetery.69
