There are 36 bathhouses, excluding the baths in the private residences … The city has 5,000 weaving looms, employing 10,000 workers, not including the men and women who embroider or adorn clothes… The city produces cloth, the like of which is not to be seen elsewhere: woven gilded cloths that look as if they were sewn, selling for 1,000 dinars each; headdresses, selling at 500 dinars each, sofas, selling for 1,000 dinars each, canopies, robe-sized cloth, beds, curtains, velvet cloth, eye-figured cloth, dabiqi silken cloth embroidered with silver, dabiqi unicoloured cloth, tabby cloth, and other things which cannot be described.3
