Dear Nathaniel Mackey,

I need to tell you that I feel truly privileged to be included in your magazine, Hambone. You and Hambone are the most sincerely appreciative audience I have found. Most people are struck by something in my poems, but aren’t sure just what it is. That “something” is a certain conclusion about this country in its karmic place NOW in the world, this planet. And, you know, from THERE I build the poem. The majority of small press mags, so far, have not picked up on these vibrations, so a lot of my poems continue to be misinterpreted. You are a careful, thoughtful reader though. I have gathered this from your letters. Yet, I never dared believe you were putting together a magazine like this!!

For me to read the other writers/musicians/artists in this issue is like coming home. To say “thank you” seems to be a ludicrous cheapening of the energies Hambone generates. The magazine is beyond this, in my opinion. I am pleased and impressed, to say the least . . .

Well, Hambone is a real, concrete, energy force now . . . you have done something to be very proud of. You are, you know, MAKING your own “Crossroads Choir.”64
