****CHAPTER NUMBER TWELVE****

The following morning, Peaches was a bit disoriented when she awakened in an unfamiliar bed. Then she remembered the fire at her apartment and the fact that she was renting a room in Antoine’s home.

She was also surprised to see a pair of jeans, a very cute casual top, and a set of brand new undies lying across the chaise lounge in the corner of the room. She stepped out of the bed and picked up the items. She inspected the tags. They were all in her size.

She smiled. She had no idea how Antoine had managed his little magic trick, but she was happy as all get out to have a clean set of clothes to wear.

She quickly made her way into the en suite bathroom and showered. By the time she’d stepped back into the sleeping portion of the suite, her nose was twitching from the delicious smell of bacon and pancakes. Or are they buttermilk waffles? she thought to herself with a smile on her face.

Antoine grinned at her when she made her way into the eat-in kitchen. “Good morning, beautiful. I see you found the outfit.”

She returned his smile. “Yes I did. How did you manage to pick up everything in all the right sizes?”

“Oh, as much as I’d love to claim all the credit for your ensemble, I can’t. I called Tiana after you went to sleep last night. I asked her to purchase a few items for you. She picked up some things and dropped them off early this morning.” He paused for a moment, then continued speaking. “She asked me to tell you to give her a call if you’d like to go shopping for some new items later on today.”

A look of uncertainty worked its way across his handsome face, then disappeared. He sighed. “I kind of told her that I planned on taking you out to the mall this afternoon —,” his eyes met hers. “I really hope I didn’t overstep my boundaries.”

She was sure that from his statement to Tiana, his sister would probably start wondering exactly what was going on between her and Antoine. Peaches couldn’t be angry at him for his little slip-up. Nowadays, she liked being transparent in her dealings. In her eyes, the sooner the rest of the White family realized they were a couple of sorts, the better.

He was surprised when Peaches gave him a tiny smile. “Tell you what, share with me the recipe for these delicious homemade waffles that you just made, and all will be forgiven.”

“Okay, Peaches. You have a deal.”
