7th Canadian Hospital, Etaples.
He was admitted to the 1st London City of London, General Hospital on 12 October 1918 and was treated there until 9 November 1918. On 5 December 1918 he became a patient at the Queen Maryâs Convalescent Hospital at Roehampton where he was fitted with an artificial leg, and he remained there until 22 January 1919. The amputation was so far up the leg, that John Savident was left with only a 5-inch stump.
He was medically discharged from the Army on 23 January 1919. His home was at Richmont, St Saviour, Guernsey. His medical record did not show how much Army pension or the amount of pay out he received for the loss of his leg taking into account the fact that Private Cyril Robin, who had to have a finger amputated, received a payment of £65.
Private (13/16458) John Percival Saville enlisted on 9 September 1914, initially in the 13th Battalion, Durham Light Infantry, before transferring as a Private (66143) to the 17th Battalion, Royal Defence Corps, and finally becoming Private (2467) Royal Guernsey Light Infantry. He sustained a gunshot wound to his right arm on 10 July 1916 which resulted in his return to the UK for treatment at the County of London War Hospital where he remained until 20 October 1916.
