The Reconciliation of Tensions between Temporal Structures

In our study, we observed how actors in the accelerator managed to reconcile time-related tensions in order to enact acceleration through temporary organizing in the accelerator. Specifically, we identified three temporal practices through which actors did so: sequencing, freezing, and merging.

Sequencing

‘Sequencing’ refers to slowing down and speeding up the activities associated with different temporal structures in order to bring them into a sequential order (see Fig. 5.1). This helps actors to enact the acceleration of the startup process through temporary organizing by mutually adjusting divergent temporal rhythms and scales of clashing temporal structures.
