The light faded to darkness, and the air grew thick. Desperate undergrowth stretched up and clawed for the last scraps of daylight. The foliage closed in around him, slapping his face, snagging his clothes, scratching him. His eyes yearned for golden sunlight, just a flicker, but he submerged into the depths of a primordial forest, drowning in a sea of green. He resisted the urge to turn Pilot around and race back to the light.

When he could take no more, a finger of light penetrated the darkness. He wanted Pilot to gallop out of this abyss; he wanted freedom; he wanted light, but Pilot trudged at a steady pace. Sock, however, raced to daylight, his black silhouette outlined in golden light.
