Sprain

Sprains can be treated by applying a cold compress to the affected area for the first twenty-four hours. Once the swelling has subsided, allow the sprain to sit for a day. After the cold treatment, apply heat the following day to facilitate the healing process by improving circulation. Remember that a sprain should be splinted and rendered immobile until the pain has completely dissipated.

Concussion

A concussion is one of the most common head injuries that is often accompanied by a leakage of fluid containing blood that flows from the nose or ears. There are also other symptoms, such as convulsions, headache, vomiting, and pupils that are unresponsive to light. It is important that the injured patient be kept warm, and pain medications should be provided on a continuous basis. Rest is also important to allow the body to recuperate.
