Insights from Chapter 9

#1

The Clava Cairns is a Bronze Age cemetery with ring cairns and standing stones near Inverness, a city in the Highlands. A cairn is a man-made pile, or stack, of stones. These cairns identify burial chambers with passageways leading to the prehistoric tombs that once rested there.

#2

The stones are a marker or monument to those who have left this mortal coil. It is not clear how the Scots built these cairns or erected the vast standing stones that stand on guard outside the tombs.
