Chapter 5- Mind Over Matter

If you really want to get healthy, it’s going to take more than just being physically prepared, it’s going to take a lot of mental preparedness. Another important factor is that, if you’re like me, you’re not physically prepared. In that case, mental preparedness is even more important. Understanding that your mind is going to be the most important part of reaching your goals is going to help you immensely and it’s definitely going to ensure that you stick with your plans.

Think about the age-old quote of ‘ask and you shall receive.’ Well it’s the same type of thing with your -diet. If you’re willing to ask for the results and you’re willing to put in the effort for them then you’ll get those results. If you’re not willing to put forth anything then you won’t get anything in the end. You get what you give.

You may have heard of the law of reciprocity. This law states that if you give then you will receive. It also goes along with ‘you reap what you sow.’ It means you have to be willing to put forth something in order to get something back. It’s what we just told you and it goes along with your weight loss goals in a big way.

What you really need to do is make sure that you are getting involved with your goals. Think about what you want to achieve and look for people that may be able to help you with those goals. These people need to be willing and able to help you however and in order to get their help you may need a little bit of goodwill.

Creating Goodwill

In order to inspire goodwill in others you need to give goodwill to them. This means you need to make sure you’re doing nice things for them so that they feel the desire to do something nice for you in return. You don’t have to do anything big or extravagant, you may not even need to spend any money at all. Simply being nice to people can inspire them and it can be great for both of you.

Helping people simply by giving compliments is a great way to inspire this kind of goodwill and confidence. Something as simple as ‘thanks for the great dinner’ or ‘wow I can tell your workout is really paying off’ can go a long way towards making others feel better about themselves and about you.

Getting Started

Okay so now you know that you need to gain support but do you realize that your entire plan is focused on what’s happening in your head right now? You need to make sure that you’re focused on achieving your goal and that you really want to do it. If you’re not willing to do it then you won’t. It’s as simple as that. If your mind isn’t engaged then you’re not going to be able to succeed no matter how hard you try (or think you’re trying).
