Erected in the 1890s to replace an earlier home that burned down, Como is the only plantation house in West Feliciana located directly on the Mississippi River, whose floodwaters have threatened it for years. Set in splendid isolation in the rugged Tunica Hills, Como’s clipped lawns and columned majesty thrill passing steamboat passengers and break the monotony of long stretches of barren riverbanks. (WFHS.)

An 1890s structure built in Laurel Hill in the late Victorian period, but with Classical lines reminiscent of an earlier simplicity, the Rosemound house was surrounded by the rolling hills and fertile fields of a plantation begun a century before by the earliest arrival of the Jackson family. It is still occupied by direct descendants. The home’s builder, V.M. Jackson, switched from cotton to cattle and hogs in the early 1900s. (WFHS.)
