Chapter Eleven

Laura sat alone on her couch, scrolling through old photos of her and Luke on her phone. The memories flooded back, the way he used to hold her hand, the way his eyes would light up when he smiled at her. It had only been one day since their breakup, but it felt like an eternity.

She couldn't focus on anything else. Her mind was consumed with thoughts of him. She tried distracting herself with TV shows and books, but nothing could take her mind off Luke. Every sight, sound, and smell in her apartment reminded her of him, triggering waves of longing and regret that threatened to drown her. She constantly checked her phone, hoping to see a message from him, even though she knew deep down that it was unlikely.

As she laid in bed that night, she couldn't help but feel the emptiness of the space next to her where Luke used to sleep as she reached out to the side of the bed he slept on. The silence in her bedroom was deafening, and she couldn't help but think about all the times they had made love, then falling asleep in his arms. Tears streamed down her face as she realized just how much she missed him.

Laura stared at her phone, her fingers hovering over the keyboard. She took a deep breath and closed her eyes, trying to calm the butterflies in her stomach. The urge to text Luke was overwhelming, but she didn't know if she was ready to face the reality of their breakup.

Finally, she took the plunge and started typing:

Laura: Hey Luke, I know it's only been a day, but I can't stop thinking about you. I miss you so much.

As she hit send, she felt a rush of emotions wash over her. She felt vulnerable.

As she waited for Luke's response, her heart raced with anticipation. She couldn't help but wonder if he was feeling the same. She wondered if he was thinking maybe he made a mistake.

Luke: Hey Laura, I hope you're doing okay. I appreciate your message and I want you to know that I care about you, but I don't think it's a good idea for us to get back together. I need some time to figure things out, and I don't want to give you false hope. I hope you understand.

When Laura received Luke's message, she felt a mix of disappointment and frustration. She had been hoping that he would change his mind and give her another chance, but his message clarified he was not interested in rekindling their relationship.

Laura: Luke, I understand you need time to heal, but I can't help how I feel. I miss you so much and I wish we could work things out.

Luke: Laura, I know this is tough, but we need to respect each other's space. It's important for both of us to have some time apart to process our feelings. I hope we can do this without any drama or hurtful behavior. Take care.
