Canada aided the Iraq War in numerous ways—such as postinvasion training for the Iraqi military, ship deployments in the region, Canadian troops serving in the US military, and so on—but it wasn’t officially part of the “Coalition of the Willing.” Prime Minister Jean Chrétien refused to send troops unless the mission had the approval of the United Nations, which it famously did not. This was okay with most Canadians, who believed the war was misguided and unnecessary. Canada did send troops to Afghanistan after 9/11, though.
