In the light of Collins’ analysis, this scheme not only shows that ‘[it] is intergenerational networks dividing up attention space that make intellectual history in every sense’,15 it also draws the trajectory along which Honneth and Sloterdijk had to, sooner or later, get into frontal collision. As contemporary monads in a network continuum, each of these disciples embodies distinct philosophical lineages even as they developed thoughts and idiosyncrasies that have granted them the status of original author. In an ideal-typical manner, I propose to label their intellectual interventions in two ways. On the one hand, Sloterdijk proposes a Gedankenexperiment, a set of provocative propositions which freely speculate and do not seek to be applied in reality, but which nevertheless seek to encourage a radical change in mentality. On the other hand,

Honneth is bound to a Verantwortungsphilosophie, a public debate ethics that has to serve as the linchpin of the agora and defend analytical prudence as well as the political and scientific responsibility of the intellectual.
