An Intermediate Group: The Internalized Homophobia Fault Line
In an intermediate group with regard to psychopathology-internalized homophobia are patients who develop along more or less normal (neurotic) lines but in whom intense manifestations of internalized homophobia are triggered by a life stressor of some type. Associated with generalized symptomatic regression are a nucleus of symptoms resulting in and from internalized homophobia.
The following vignette illustrates such a situation in a young woman who was a lesbian.
