Pricing your e-book to sell

You need to understand your competition and take that competition into account when you set the price of your e-book. Especially if you’re selling a work of fiction, if you price it too high, potential readers simply seek out a more affordable book to read. Thus, when it comes to pricing, stay in line with competing titles. The exception to this rule applies if you can accurately promote that your book has a perceived high value to the reader — perhaps because of your expertise or reputation as the author, or due to the exclusive information in your book.

If you plan to sell your book at a higher price than competing titles, you must create a perceived value for the book quickly and effectively. Convince the potential reader by using the text-based description for the book, showcasing a high-quality and attention-grabbing cover, and offering a free sample chapter so that the potential reader can get a preview of what to expect from reading your book in its entirety.
