I am so happy to be walking into this party on Jason's arm. The man makes me feel so protected and cared about. There is nothing that can bring down the high that I feel when I am around him.

There is the added bonus that having an obvious date with me will keep Anton, the guy that plays our Santa, from harassing me. The entire season he has made crude remarks about the way I fill out my elf dress and his hands have "accidentally" touched my breast and ass a few too many times.

With Jason accompanying me, I feel a million times safer. Surely Anton can't be fool enough to try anything when I am obviously with someone.

The night is a festive one. The company I worked for has rented out the party space of a local restaurant and someone decorated it with plenty of garlands and a large tree covering in tinsel is situated in one corner. I get drinks for Jason and myself and we linger chatting with people that worked out front in Santa's Workshop with me and some of the more executive types that work behind the scenes. I wasn't the only one to bring a significant other either.

I'd left Jason talking to some other people while I went to go refill our drinks. Honestly, I just needed a moment away from one of the other elf's wife. She was a chatterbox and didn't let anyone get in a word edgewise. None stop chatting about her "fur babies," a pair of the rattiest dogs I have ever seen, but we were expected to coo over.

Now that I had a little break, I can steel myself against her and deal with her inane prattling a little longer. I thank my lucky stars that by the time I get back to Jason, she has wandered off somewhere. I slide my arm around him and lean into his large chest. He wraps his arm around me without missing a beat of what he is saying. Everything we do just feels so natural, like we don't have to think about it.

Moments later, the man Jason was speaking to leaves and Jason turns his million-dollar smile and piercing baby blues on me.

"Hey there, sweetie," he murmurs.

"Hey, back at you handsome. I brought you something to drink as an apology for abandoning you with that lady."

His chuckle shakes right through me. A man's laugh shouldn't be as sexy as his is.

"Thank you, but I would much prefer something else as an apology."

I lean back pretending to be scandalized. "Jason! We can't do that in public. Or at least not so obviously."

Catching my implications, he lets out a big booming laugh.

"As much as I would enjoy that, and believe me, we will be discussing your delightfully dirty mind later, I was actually building up to ask for a dance."

"I would love to."

We set down our half-drunk glasses, and he leads me out into the crowded dance floor.

Just as we step out, the
