When windsurfing became popular in the 1970s, Cabrillo Beach was the place to go. Among windsurfing enthusiasts, Cabrillo Beach was called “Hurricane Gulch” because of its reliable afternoon breezes. Contests called Windsurfing Enduros have been conducted at Cabrillo Beach and attracted experts and novices alike.
