Mark sat at his desk typing out an e-mail and listening to the squawk of the police radio. He had tried to call Jeremy several times only to go directly to voice mail, and so far, Jeremy hadn’t returned his calls. Mark didn’t know why, but his own gut feeling told him that Jeremy was probably getting into trouble somewhere.

Since that afternoon on Pier 39, Jeremy had not exactly been forthcoming with any explanation for what he was doing there and no apology for the worry he had caused everyone. The fact that Jeremy hadn’t mentioned Tom or probed Mark with questions only proved that Jeremy was up to something. The entire time, Mark had been sitting at his desk, only partially listening to the police radio.
