The bottomless pit of spiritual self-analysis

It is easy to turn spirituality into nothing more than mental self-analysis, which just keeps the false thought-based dream self alive. You may find yourself thinking about yourself all the time, measuring your progress by comparing where you are today with where you were yesterday and where you want to be tomorrow, and constantly mentally analyzing your interior mental and emotional states. This kind of constant analysis is a bottomless pit of self-centeredness. It never ends. Nothing is ever resolved. One mental point just leads to another mental point and then to another. It’s all about “me.” It is the dream self (ego) caught on a treadmill that is going nowhere. The mental analysis is happening in an effort to figure out who you are. It is an identity crisis

Presence does not require analysis. In presence, there is no fixation on anything that arises and falls within the space of now. Thoughts are seen to come and go without a need to manipulate or analyze them. In seeing this whole movement of the mental dream self, you are witnessing a stream of self-centeredness. Presence reveals your true identity so that mental analysis is unnecessary. It resolves the identity crisis fully and finally. A natural and peaceful inner quietness is revealed in this seeing.
