AFRO-CARIBBEAN MIGRATIONS TO BROWARD COUNTY, FLORIDA

Black migrations, increasingly complex within the U.S., have resulted in the emergence of multiple settlement patterns within the same metropolitan region. Broward County, Florida, which contains metropolitan Ft. Lauderdale, provides a good example of the inter-regional and intra-regional migrations of West Indians from NYC and Miami-Dade and their complex patterns of settlement. Ethnicity, class, and intra-Diaspora ethnic tensions can be seen in a brief analysis of this location.
