Only those closest to the Queen were aware that it was Conroy she had suspected of misconduct, far more than Lady Flora. Victoria’s diaries from the Kensington period suggest that she had witnessed Conroy “taking liberties” of some sort with her mother, and she had indicated to Melbourne that she had witnessed such conduct from Conroy as would dispose her to believe him capable of anything.
