Part II of this book, “Exercises to Awaken Natural Healing,” presents a program of Qigong exercises that were developed by the NHRF to benefit seniors and the aging brain. The program includes hand and feet exercises, animal sounds, facial massages and 12 Sitting Exercises for movement and meditation. In applying the natural healing program for someone who is showing indications of dementia, or as a preventative practice for people concerned about their own memory, results may be seen that offer a complement to an existing health program. Whether for yourself or someone you care about, natural healing can offer an improved sense of wellbeing.
To start, practice as many of the exercises in Part II as you can while sitting comfortably in a chair, preferably one with arms. Add more repetitions and exercises as comfort allows. When bending or stretching, raising your arms, or stretching your feet, go only as far as the body comfortably allows. Over time, the range of motion should increase naturally so it will feel better to do more.
