A confluence of tributaries

The late 1920s and early 1930s brought great scientific excitement in psychoanalysis, psychosomatic medicine, and psychophysiological research, tributaries with multiple intertwining facets of development. General hospital psychiatry had also begun to emerge. C-L psychiatry was indeed the benefactor, flourishing in the matrix of these various trends in American psychiatry. Various authors hold that C-L psychiatry is essentially an outgrowth of psychosomatic medicine, while others as adamantly consider it born of general hospital psychiatric units. In truth and retrospect, it is historically too foggy to make accurate attribution.
