The Content of a Question

I used to spend a lot of time thinking about what questions to ask someone. Then I discovered that constructing questions can be relatively simple. The trick is to identify a small set of phrases that are consistently effective at evoking thoughtful responses from others and then use them as often as possible. I think of these as power phrases because when incorporated into questions, they elicit powerful responses.

Below are my favorite power phrases, categorized based upon the three types of conversations introduced earlier: conversations for relationship, conversations for possibility, and requests, a core part of conversations for action.
