Week 3 - Paper And Card

Personal, Social and Emotional Development

During a circle time sort out a bin of clean rubbish into card, paper and other materials. Introduce the idea of recycling. Show children the symbol that shows something has been made from recycled materials. (PS1, 9, 10)

Invite a member of the local council to come and talk about paper recycling. After the visit, encourage the children to make thank-you cards. (PS1, 2, 3)

Communication, Language and Literacy

Read The Jolly Postman or Other People’s Letters by Janet and Allan Ahlberg (Heinemann). Make a group big book of letters to the Jolly Postman (see activity opposite). (L4, 17, 19)

Set up a role-play post office. Provide a variety of cards, papers and envelopes for children to enjoy ‘writing’ and posting. (L11, 19)

Enjoy sharing Katie Morag Delivers the Mail by Mairi Hedderwick (Red Fox). (L4)

Make posters to remind people not to waste paper. (L11, 19)
