Held throughout the summer in the historic 3,000-strong community of Jacksonville, about five miles west of Medford, the annual Britt Music & Arts Festival attracts thousands of enthusiasts to dozens of concerts representing myriad musical genres—classical, blues, jazz, folk, bluegrass, pop, country, and more. The performances are held outdoors in a naturally formed amphitheater set amid verdant forested hills at the estate of nineteenth-century photographer Peter Britt (1819–1905). With a maximum capacity of 2,200, the Britt Festival, a nonprofit endeavor dating back to the first small event in 1963, is able to attract world-class musicians while maintaining an intimate concert setting at each performance.

Concerts begin in the evening, typically under exquisitely clear Southern Oregon skies. Each year’s concerts and ticket prices are announced by mid-April. Over the years, Britt has hosted some of the world’s best-known acts—Chicago, Willie Nelson, Boz Scaggs, Diana Ross, Al Green, The B-52s, Randy Travis, and many more. But Britt also offers the chance to see up-and-coming stars, regionally known musicians, and veteran performers from every kind of music. Local restaurant concessions offer a wide array of great food, and both wine and beer are available onsite.
