According to this, the hotel guests need 53 cm thick walls to protect them against radiation. This is still a long way off the 10 m of water or 90 cm of lead that would mimic the earth’s natural defences against radiation. One can only answer for it under the assumption that visitors would stay for no more than a few days – like the Apollo astronauts who, by comparison, had no protection against radiation at all, namely, ‘a single thickness of thin aluminium skin’ or their spacesuits. The hotel staff would have to spend their off-duty hours in the underground regions of the hotel since the portions above the ground would not provide sufficient protection in the long run.
