Jotunheim

Jotunheim, YO-tun-hame, means the "world of the giants" and is home to the Giants in Old Norse belief. Utgard is another name for Jotunheim. It is also a combination of innangard and utangard. This shows that the realm holds a space at one extreme of their land beliefs. The wilderness comes from the Old English root words of wild-deor-ness, which translates to "the place of the self-willed beats." This means that Jotunheim is a wilderness which surrounds a civilized world.

The dwellings of the giants are known as mountain peaks within a dark, thick forest. It endlessly snows, and winter never eases up. Their landscapes are grim and inhospitable.

Ifing, a river, separates Asgard and Jotunheim. Jotunheim also held Gastropnir and Prymheim. King Thrym ruled the Giants. Gudmund lived in Glaesisvelli, another location in Jotunheim.
