The text was practically burning a hole in my phone because I couldn't stop thinking about it.

It had shown up while I was still at Irina's, right in the middle of me helping her put some lunch together. At first I was going to ignore it, but when I saw it was from Felix, well.

I didn't ignore it.

He didn't spend a lot of time at the warehouses. They were dotted all over the city, used to store and move drugs and weapons and whatever else Felix was involved in smuggling at the time. There was a lot I didn't know and even more I didn't want to know, so I never got too deep in specifics.

But he usually left the actual management of the drops and pickups up to me or Dmitri or his brother. He managed us from his study and we reported in to let him know if all had gone according to plan or not.

If he was going to be at a warehouse and wanted me to meet him there, it could only mean something big was happening, and I had a sinking suspicion that I knew what it was.

Still, I finished my lunch with Irina and kissed her thoroughly before I left. When she asked what was up, I told her the truth, and she seemed pleased.

"Be careful," she said, holding my gaze with a serious look of her own. "I mean it."

"Yes, ma'am," I teased and then kissed her again.

"And tell Dmitri to be careful, too."

"Will do."

Hopefully we'd have some say in the matter
