Hinto’s Story

So you’ve seen the sacrificed deer in the woods, surrounded by the little pyramids of rocks. The people who did that used to work with Remy’s mother – her name was Maria – back in the day.

Those people didn’t do shit like sacrificing animals back then. Maria Carbonneau – that was her name before she got married and had Remy and his brothers – founded that group with a few of her friends, because they wanted to have an organization that looked after the interests of them and other magic-doers like them. Maria and her friends were looking out for people. Not like the group does now. It was kind of like the NRA, which used to be all about gun safety and responsible gun ownership until that LaPierre guy got a hold of it and turned it into a big lobbying group.

The group was called the National Magick Association, which is a coven of Pagans, magicians, witches, and other magic-doers. From the outside, the group looks like a bunch of Pagans doing their things with runes and crystals, because they placed magical bonds to keep that illusion alive for those who are not magic-doers. This allowed actual magicians to keep the world safe for humanity without being bothered by troublemakers. It also keeps out people who can’t do magic but like to tell actual magicians that they’re doing it all wrong.

The problem with having a national organization, as with any organization, was that there was always a troublesome element who wanted to use magic to subdue and lord over people, and others who used magic only to get their own way. Maria’s leadership would swiftly crush this element – they would be kicked out, or banned, or given a stern talking to, depending on the severity of the offence.

Maria had her hands full with these guys. They would retaliate to go online and dox her and her family; they’d send her rape threats and death threats, and sometimes they would show up at her front door. This was one of the reasons she had to suddenly leave Missouri when Remy was in 3rd grade and move to California. One of the banned magicians broke into her house while the children were sleeping and she was attacked. The local sheriff didn’t bother protecting her – but he also was the kind of guy who would share white supremacy memes on social media. So she took the kids and moved somewhere where law enforcement was a little more open-minded, and her friends in California said that she could work there and got a good-paying job for her husband there so they could support themselves.

Then hatemongers began fighting their way into the organization. As hate spread, so did these little turds.

The group went national, and they started holding big events and conferences. The whole time she was heading the organization, Remy’s mother fought against right-wing Nazis and incels and white supremacists. She spoke out against the white supremacists stealing indigenous magic
