A Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway train leaves Boot with all the railway’s passenger stock. The carriage next to the locomotive was built by the railway for use at busy times.

The 1844 Regulation of Railways Act required railways to run at least one train daily with covered carriages at a speed of not less than 12 mph and a fare of not more than 1d per mile, for the benefit of workers. Special tickets were issued. The journey represented by this ticket took five minutes.

Trains were run by the company in 1910; in 1911 it was leased again and thereafter was worked spasmodically, dependent on the stone available, but from 30 April 1913 it was abandoned.

In 1915 it was taken over by Narrow Gauge Railways Ltd as a vehicle for the rail products of the Northamptonshire model maker W. J. Bassett-Lowke, and converted to 15-inch gauge. In this form it still exists, regrettably beyond the scope of this book.
