Change action loops describe the main aim of our narrative change process. By enacting a new narrative, not only do we change the way things are done, we position the narrative in our cognitive framework. It has a chance to take.2 For example, the new narrative may become part of the organizational culture and itself one day be taken for granted as the way we do things around here.

Change action loops occur when we choose a new narrative to guide our actions, behaviors, and interpretations (see figure 6.1). When we use a new narrative of the way we see things, we bring it into being in the real world and give it a chance to become institutionalized in our cognitive framework. If the new narrative is more and more widely shared through ongoing enactment, it becomes part of our culture—be it organizational or societal.3
