Translation:

Shannon: Sometimes they [SEE signers] get teased or mocked.

BKE: Really? Like what?

Shannon: Like (As another person using SEE.) <I HAvE....... .> (As

ASL user.) <[They will] jostle other person and say sarcastically,

“HAvE?!?!” Get out!>

BKE: Do you tell them straight to their face like that, or do you just

keep quiet and walk away and then talk about them to other people?

Shannon: Both. Both. Both. (As ASL user.) <“That’s SEE!”> (As SEE user.)

<“Oh. I didn’t know HAvE, HAs, HAD were SEE. Really?”> He/she is

ignorant, but the Deaf community will mock him or her, plus (as

another Deaf person) <they will bump each other with their elbows

and say, “Did you see her using SEE. She doesn’t belong.”> (As herself

again.) It’s not fair. She doesn’t know, just like me in junior high. I

went in and didn’t know that was SEE. It was just signing and that

was great. I was surprised later to realize the specifics.
