The same speech mechanisms and systems described above are used to articulate sounds in singing. In fact, there are several overlaps between speech, language, singing and music which provide solid arguments for why singing is valuable in rehabilitating speech and language skills when they have been disrupted by neuronal injury. The next section provides an overview of the relationship between speech and language to provide a theoretical base for music’s therapeutic application in speech and language rehabilitation.
