A transverse view over the greater trochanter will show short axis views of the gluteus minimus and lateral and posterior portions of the gluteus medius tendon with the overlying iliotibial band, and confirm any cortical irregularities, tendinopathy, and bursal fluid collections in an orthogonal plane (Fig. 4a, b).
