METRO-GOLDWYN-MAYER STUDIOS, 1976. The changeable copy sign set a historic precedent in signage, as the name of the studio is listed above the title of its latest movie, (which, at the time of this photograph, was Network). The welcoming sign stretched across Main Street was for grown-up child star Elizabeth Taylor, a studio favorite. Barracks buildings still serve as office space.

MGM SIGN ON FILMLAND, 1992. When Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer sold its historic studio lot in the 1980s, it moved across the street to the Filmland Corporate Center, offices specifically designed for the movie industry. MGM left Culver City in 1992 and moved to Santa Monica. The historic sign remains in storage.
