London undoubtedly is a centre for bartending excellence. Some even see it as the capital of the cocktailing world. There are venues that have become the stuff of legend when it comes to the individuals that have served behind the bars. Match Bar has played home to Dick Bradsell, Tony Conigliaro and a multitude of other talent from Michael Butt and Giles Looker to Sam Jeavons and Pete Kendall. LAB saw Douglas Ankrah, John Gakuru and Myles Davies show the industry just what they had got. At the Sanderson, Ben Pundole, Dan Wilks and Henry Besant served its well-heeled customers.

But take a closer look at those who work in London and you can see there are a great number of bartenders who hail from the regions, and much further beyond too, making London’s bartenders more nomadic than born-and-bred capital guys. The capital is a melting pot of cultures, inspirations and trends. Each new settler in the city brings their own style and way of doing things, giving back to the city as well as taking from it.

There are many regional areas that have brought us some of the most heroic individuals. Oxford brought us Angus Winchester, Alex Turner and Kevin Armstrong. Manchester sees Ian Morgan, Beau Myers and Jamie Stephenson ruling the roost, while in the world of flair (and Britain ‘s Got Talent fame) also honed their skills there, before taking their northern charm to the capital. In Leeds the likes of Gary Hayward, Jake Burger and Mal Evans have ensured that their city has a well-deserved pin on the mixological map. And you would be hard pushed to meet an individual more proud of their Yorkshire roots than Something for the Weekend television mixologist and bar owner Andy Pearson.
