Throwing the door open, Nathaniel stormed into the spare bedroom. He loosened his tie and pulled the jacket off, tossing it onto the bed.

“What in the hell just happened?” he asked the empty room.

A mass of fury, confusion, and frustration balled in the pit of his stomach. He’d been blinded by her beauty, her performance, her unabashed pleasure. Nathaniel growled in frustration. He knew it would only be a matter of time before she discovered the ugly truth...all of it. He sighed and continued to strip, throwing all his clothes on a pile.

He reached over and rang the bell. He’d dismissed Basset for the evening he remembered with regret. No matter, his servant would come regardless. A twinge of guilt assailed him. It seemed as though all his promises were empty lately.

A knock at the door a few moments later drew his attention from the concerns flitting around in his mind. He opened the door.

“You rang, sir?” Basset stood before him, the perfect picture of a dutiful servant.

“Yes, come in.” He ushered Basset into the room and closed the door.

“I fear I’ve made quite a mess of things, Basset. Miss Virginia will be commandeering my chambers it seems. I’ve locked the door, for her own safety.” He withdrew the key from his trouser pocket. “Please make sure she remains confined to the room until I return tomorrow evening.”

“Yes, sir.”

“Make sure to supply her with whatever she requests, within reason, mind you.” Nathaniel sighed. “Just remember, she is not to leave that room.”

Basset nodded. “As you wish, sir. Will that be all?”

Nathaniel nodded. “I believe so. Thank you.”

His servant left the room, leaving him alone with his thoughts.

“You’ve fucked things up again,” he muttered to himself. He trudged into the bathroom and turned on the hot water. As the bath filled, Nathaniel stripped completely. He slipped into the water as it continued to fill.

The heat bit into his flesh, stinging and then warming him to the core. He leaned his head back against the porcelain rim of the tub. Once the water nearly submersed him, he turned it off and relaxed in the scalding liquid.

Images flashed through his mind. Virginia descending the stairs at Pamela’s. Watching her take the stage at Casa de Luna, the stage lighting making her glow. The pink flush as her climax consumed her as she straddled him in his office. Even an hour later, her scent lingered in his mind, the taste of her on his lips. He’d promised to leave her alone, to leave her untouched.

But she’d kissed him and his resolve shattered...just like she had with pleasure, then with pain. He shook his head, knowing he’d been a fool to keep her from the truth. Her innocence deserved protection, did it not?

Perhaps in his vain attempt to protect her, he’d forgotten that life doesn’t give a shit about one’s age or ability to cope with pain and heartache. It certainly hadn’t when Sarah had crushed his optimistic youthful spirit.

Nathaniel dipped beneath the surface of the water.
